About the Artist
Chris Gyorgy was born in Jamestown, North Dakota and raised in two small towns -- Des Lacs, North Dakota and Sterling, Colorado. At an early age, he was drawn to the creation of arts and crafts. Throughout his public education, he excelled at any assignments that allowed him to express himself through the language of art.
After graduating from Sterling High School (where his father was his principal -- yeah, he was that kid), Chris attended the University of Northern Colorado, where he received a Fine Arts Education degree -- with an emphasis in drawing and painting.
About the Work
Chris creates knitted sculptures using a variety of fibers (wools, synthetics and metallics) and pairs them with found wood and simple, polished finishing techniques. In addition to his knitted sculptures, he paints portraits (commissions, favored subjects and Hollywood glamour girls), When the holidays are approaching, he turns his creative skills to knitted and crocheted fashion accessories and other festive curiosities.
